THE STORY SO FARTHE STORY SO FAR
The RED DWARF saga has spanned over 10 years. Over those years they gave us 8 series. I will now attempt to write the entire plot so far starting from series 1 going on to 8. Few you better like this, this will take ages!!
SERIES 1
The saga starts with a ship full of crew and technicians Arnold Rimmer and David Lister. Rimmer the hard working git with very few friends and slob Lister with a hand full of friends with no ambition or clean socks. The captain of the ship Captain. Holister discovers that Lister has a smuggled cat on board that has not been checked. A photo that Lister sent to the ships lab to be developed had him and the cat on. The cat, Frankenstein, and Lister are both put in stasis (Frozen in time). Meanwhile, Rimmer carried on his duties which include fixing the drive plate. He makes a serious mistake and while he is getting a bollocking from the captain there is a huge blast and each member of the crew are exposed to a lethal dose of Cathium 2 (radioactive). Lister and his cat are still happily sitting in stasis safe and oblivious to the events in the ship. Holly (the ships computer)could only realize Lister from stasis when the readio takes a safe background level. 3 million years later and Lister is free to be released. Lister heads towards the de-briefing room with no knowledge of the events that had happened and was greeted by Holly who tells him the entire crew had died. The only form on human he had contact with was Rimmer who was brought back as a hologram. The cat that Lister had had evolved into a humanoid version of cat with serious vanity. The tree crew members now set a course for earth to fulfill Listers original dream of owning a farm.
Holly plans to shift the ship into light speed to reach the earth and the Cat and Lister need to go back into stasis to prevent dyeing. It all goes a bit wrong when the ship goes in to light speed 24 hours early and very strange things start to happen. The ship goes so fast (10 times the speed of light) that future events that haven't happened yet become visible to the crew. This gets very confusing as the 'Future Echoes' can not see the crew. Lister sees a future image of himself who tells him to go to the medical bay to take a photo. When he arrives he see himself with two boys Jim and Bexley. The question was how do you get two babies on board with no woman. "I don't know but it will be allot of fun finding out"
Rimmer starts to smeg Lister off so much by restricting him to 5 fags per week each for a days work. Lister plans to become a chef which would make him higher rank that Rimmer. This really starts to annoy Rimmer so he try's to form a friendly relationship with Lister to stop him becoming his superior. All attempt fail so Rimmer, using the wonders of holograms, changes his appearance to that of Kris Kochanski (Listers ex-girl friend) and try to lure Lister away from his final exam. Rimmer is exposed and Lister fails his exam. Even though he tells Rimmer he has.
Rimmer gets very excited when he is told about a pod that has appeared on the radar. He tells Holly to bring it in so he can investigate the possibillity of aliens. Lister was building up his first book collection of cat books. The Cat gives him the cat bible and lister discovers that he Could be the Cat's god. Holly translates the bible and discovers that Lister was the God and his old cat Frankenstein was the virgin mother. He found that the cats that lived while he was in stasis had divided into two groups. The red and blue hats. The two groups had a massive war so they escaped the ship on different courses. Lister finds the cat deep in one of the ships holds with an old preist. Lister visits the old Cat just before he dies. Rimmer finds that his alien pod is an old RED DWARF garbage pod. Ooops
Lister gets a mutated version of the flu while going into a contaminated officers deck to look at Kris Kochanski's dream disk. While he is sleeping his hulusinations become solid and real. Raining fish and an exploding major where found in his quarters. When Lister wakes he finds two men in the medi bay. Two hulusinations his 'Confidence and Paranoia'. His confidence instantly takes a liking to Lister while his Paranoyia puts him down constantly. Lister and his Confidence builds up a close freindship and go on a mission outside of the ship to recover Kris Kochanski's hologram data disk so they can bring her back. While outside of the ship Confidence takes off his space helmet afetr admitting to killing Paranoyia. Lister, now cured, takes the disk and put it in the generation machine. To his suprise the disk was a copys of Rimmers that Rimmer has swapped with Kochanski's. Now there is TWO Rimmers.
Rimmer now with a room mate moves into a new room with his significant other. The two get on like a house on fire dboth driving each other to the limits to achive ultimate disiplin. As always true love does not last long and soon a raging argument. The origional Rimmer moves back in with Lister. Soon the dispute bettween the two Rimmers gets too much so the second one is turned off. Not before a revealing secret about Gespatcho soup is revealed out Rimmer.
